AJAX/PHP Status Script

I have a web application which uses PHP and processes user input. Processing takes between 30-90 seconds and I would like to display the status of the output variables to the user without reloading the page. 1. When the page loads, use ajax/JQuery to check a PHP status script for the status of 2 variables. The variables will be set once the processing completes. 2. I would like the HTML page to periodically (every 10 sec) check the status (using Ajax) of the variables in the status script. 3. I would like to show these variables on the HTML page (and update if they change every 10 sec) to the user. The variables should be enclosed in a <div>. I am fine if this is written as a template using some sample variables that I can then use in my application
