Rental server ..htaccess and .htpasswd

Having problem in redirecting from http to https we set basic auth. Am using rental server which will not allow me to change the httpd.conf. So in the documentroot we are setting .htaccess file which is the responsible to redirect. When we access the site it is redirected. But the old user if he try to access by using the http link and it is prompting the twice for the basic auth. How can do asking only once. /home/vsr/www --> Is my document root and having .htaccess file. /home/vsr/www/test --> having .htaccess and .htpasswd file and user can access directly to this url [login to view URL] --> It will ask only once the basic auth --> It is correct. [login to view URL] --> In this case it will ask 2 times the basic auth . How can we fix this issue. Not getting proper help from the web.
