The project is to refactor the implementation of an open-access work of cultural preservation of an African society, an ethnographic project spanning fifty years of collaborative research. The goal of the project is to facilitate long-term accessibility and maintenance. This website has been developed incrementally over more than a decade with different programs, and it has obsolete and redundant code. The website has three levels of static, text-based webpages primarily in HTML4 and HTML5, with some CSS. You can find the current version of the work-in-progress at: [login to view URL] Your task will be (1) to clean, update, or refactor the coding as appropriate; (2) to reformat the coding for legibility and easier maintenance; (3) to make the site’s pages correctly responsive to multiple platforms; (4) to design a vertical navigation bar responsive to mobile devices; and (5) to ensure correct font display through Unicode character references. The project is to be done in HTML and CSS only. Please do not reply with your qualifications in content management systems, web design, or back-end development. This is not a call for a new design, but you will need some design experience with font best-practices and Unicode character references. The work will involve a significant number of hours, but it will be done incrementally and part-time. The project tasks will be managed with manual time-tracking on an hourly rate. There are currently about 300 HTML pages for refactoring. In addition, the website has hundreds of linked files in PDF, JPG, and MP3 format. Please reply with one or more samples of your work.
