I am very interested in answering the questions below using public baseball data. Using the variables I would like to see if certain players' statistics are correlated with higher contracts (more money) for them, and assessing the value of certain contracts. I have worked with great people on codementor on data analytics projects in the past and would love an expert’s help to answer some questions on this topic. What have been the market drivers in MLB free agency over the past 15 years? What are members of the 2022 free agent class expected to make in free agency based on these drivers? What statistics/characteristics have an effect on the amount of money a free agent gets/their contract? Looking at performance data relative to the contract they received, what is considered a good/bad free agent contract? What variables affect the contract a free agent is given? What have been some common characteristics of the highest paid free agents in recent years? What variables have a statistically significant effect on the contract a free agent receives? How does a player's performance in their contract year affect their contract vs their past three seasons performance? How did free agents perform after signing their new free agent contracts? Based on their performance after signing, what is the value of the contract? Can we grade how well a contract turned out based on this? Can we calculate the expected value of a free agent contract? What statistics/metrics are most correlated to large contracts, or market drivers? What have been the best and worst free agent contracts in the past 15 years? Which teams, or general managers have been the best at signing free agents at high value? Which agents? How much does a player’s agent affect the contract amount they’ll receive? What was the free agent’s performance in the three seasons before signing the contract, and look at their performance after signing? Any trends in this? Is the performance in the year before signing much more important than the other years? How are this year’s free agent contracts expected to turn out? With past free agents, looking back, what contract should they have received? Which metrics/stats are the most correlated with large FA contracts?
